What steps does immigration take to see if an illegal who married an american is already married in mexico?
Q. If there is an open petition for a spouse and that spouse is already married. How does the INS (immigration) check it out? Are there checks that they go through to find out if they are already married?

A. Part of the immigration process includes verifying that the marriage is valid. This means both does the couple live together, etc. *and* is each person legally able to marry? For the US person, they'll get a residence history and check for marriage licenses in those places. For the foreign person, they'll do the same thing. The critical part for each is getting an accurate residence history. I can't help you with this part because I don't know what the Mexican will say about where he lived in Mexico. If you have information, you can try contacting CIS but you'll need a minimum of the guy's name and DOB. Since you're asking, I'll guess that you know the US female involved, so you may be able to get some data through her. The short answer… [cont.]

What does legal immigration have to do with illegals?
Q. I keep hearing people wanting to change laws and do things who's effect really applies only to legal immigrants and not illegals. How does stopping all immigration help stop illegal immigration? It bothers me when people disguise their anti-immigration agenda with fighting illegals.

A. yes and it disgusts me when illegals are called immigrants!!!

What happens to the immigration reforms if the government changes in Canada?
Q. They have spent so much time and money on consultations and research about what types of immigrants are needed in Canada and they are soon to come out with conclusions. Will all those efforts just do down the drain if Harper's govt leaves office or if Diane Finley is no more the Immigration Minister?

A. Once a bill has been passed in the senate the new government can not change it without going through the process again in the house and has to pass through the senate. If it`s not passed through the senate they can scrap it.What about the law Harper put in,that made fixed elections in Canada. The prime minister is not aloud to call an election when they feel like it.Harper's breaking his own law.He did not follow the liberal law on campaign funding because he does not follow there laws, and now he refuses to follow his own laws. This guy has to go.I have no trust in a man that say`s one thing and does another and has no respect for the law..The liberals spend millions on a study. What to do with the marijuana problem? The study came out that it… [cont.]

Immigration is the movement of people from one nation-state to another. While human migration has existed throughout human history, immigration implies long-term permanent residence (and often eventual citizenship) by the immigrants.

  • Treating human beings differently, simply because they were born on the opposite side of a national boundary, is hard to justify under any mainstream philosophical, religious or ethical theory.
  • The freedom to travel and to settle where one wishes, in pursuit of political freedom or economic opportunity, is among the most basic of human rights....The principal difference between the Irish peasants who once fled the potato blight on coffin ships, and the desperate Haitian rafters that our navy forcibly repatriates today, is bad timing.
